Boating on the river and lakes to beat the heat is nothing new. But the fun and excitement of jet skiing is a relatively recent phenomenon.

The term Jet Skis is trademarked by Kawasaki in Japan. But like Band-Aids, Kleenex, cruise control or dozens of brand names that have simply become a descriptor in our vocabulary, “Jet Ski” has become synonymous with personal watercrafts.

If you love water sports, you probably know what a jet ski is. A jet ski is a personal watercraft that can zoom across the water at high speeds, making sharp turns and jumps. But do you know how jet skis came to be?

The first modern type jet ski was invented in 1955 by a French engineer named Claude Ressier. He called his invention the “hydrojet”, and it was basically a small boat with an engine attached. He patented his design, but he did not have much success in selling it. He only made a few prototypes, and they were not very reliable or even safe.

The next major evolutionary development in jet ski history came in 1968. An American inventor named Clayton Jacobson II created the first stand-up jet ski. He was a motocross enthusiast who wanted to create a similar experience on water.

So, he adapted motorcycle attributes and designed a jet ski that had a handlebar and a throttle. Even better for his purposes, it could be ridden standing up. He called his invention the “Jet Ski”, and licensed it to Kawasaki, a Japanese company that was already manufacturing motorcycles and boats.

Kawasaki launched the first commercial Jet Ski in 1973. It proved to be an instant sales success. It was fun, fast, and easy to use. And it appealed to people who wanted to enjoy the thrill of water sports without having to own a boat or learn how to sail or surf. It also presented owners with new possibilities for exploring lakes, rivers, and remote coastal areas.

As might be expected, the jet ski of today is quite different from the jet ski of 1973. They are more powerful, more stable, more comfortable, and even more environmentally friendly.

They have also become more diverse, with different models and styles for different purposes and preferences. Some jet skis are designed for racing, some for freestyle tricks, some for fishing, and some simply for cruising. There are also styles of jet skis, such as sit-down jet skis, stand-up jet skis, and three-seater jet skis.

Jet skis have come a long way from their humble origins, and they continue to provide excitement and adventure on the water. Today, jet skis are one of the most popular water sports in the world. They are enjoyed by millions of people of all ages and backgrounds.

So, come join the fun and beat the heat.
